Some songs write themselves very quickly; some songs write themselves over a long time. This song started to write itself seven years ago, but the little bird kept flying just out of reach. Finally this year it told me what all the rest of the words were.
lyrics
One little sparrow fly in the morning
Whither oh where away so high
One little sparrow fly in the morning
Sweeping the cobwebs from the sky
Fly to the east, and fly to the west
And fly to the one who loves you best
One little sparrow fly in the morning
Sweeping the cobwebs from the sky
One little sparrow fall down, fall down,
Turn and turn and touch the ground
One little sparrow fall down, fall down,
Ashes, ashes we all fall down
Fall to the east, and fall to the west
And fall for the one who loves you best
One little sparrow fall down, fall down,
Ashes, ashes we all fall down
One little sparrow rise up singing,
Free little bird in the morning sky,
One little sparrow rise up singing,
I’ll be with you by and by.
Sing to the east and sing to the west,
And sing to the one who loves you best,
Sing to the east and sing to the west,
And sing to the one who loves you best,
One little sparrow rise up singing,
I’ll be with you by and by.
